I’m a writer. I may not be published in anything overly mainstream, or been given any awards; nor have I been paid for any of my works. But that doesn’t stop it being true, it’s just I haven’t done enough yet for most of the rest of the world to recognise it. Trust me, I’m working on it.
I’m essentially a grown-up geek, yet somehow still not cool enough to fit the new hipster craze. I read as much and as often as I can, and although I attempt to read broadly, I generally focus on young adult fiction. Not only is this what I read, but also what I write, better than anything else I believe.
I also work on writing for movies and television, which are often adaptations of fiction I’ve written. I also write reviews, short stories and prose, articles, plays and this blog, among other bits and pieces.
To me, the most important thing reading can give you is not education, but escapism, which explains why I enjoy fiction so much. Letters, just 26 shapes whacked together in a heap of different combinations, can make you cry, laugh, feign deafness, and bring people and quests to life by mashing the imagination of the writer and interpretation of the reader. I simply love it.
I love spending time with my family and friends, desperately miss playing a musical instrument, and with great difficultly am attempting to control the size and health level of my body.
I don’t know what else to bang on about in this corny yet necessary ‘about me’ page, except, well… #watchthisspace
